PNIA has proposed the creation of a one-stop shop to fast-track government approval of mining permits to just six months to a maximum of one year from the current processing period of as long as 10 years. Faster mining approval will be conducive to quality foreign investments.
PNIA is discussing with government the proposed implementation of a “one-stop shop” program in the mining sector to fast-track the approval of permits, similar to the Energy Virtual One Stop Shop (EVOSS) System, which streamlined the permitting process of energy generation projects in the country to attract more investments in the sector.
At a news conference during the Nickel Initiative held in Makati City on Tuesday, Bravo said they are hopeful of drastically cutting down the gestation period for mining investments by streamlining the mining permit process.
The Philippine Nickel Industry Association (PNIA) announced that it is reviving its offer to help draft an industry blueprint in collaboration with government to make the country’s nickel sector globally competitive and attractive to investors.
The Philippines has the potential to supply much of the world’s increasing demand for nickel, however there is a need for predictability and ease of doing business in order for the nickel sector to develop.
To boost investments, the Philippine Nickel Industry Association (PNIA) is proposing the establishment of a one-stop shop for all bureaucratic permits and processes in the mining sector.
The Philippine Nickel Industry Association, the largest grouping of nickel industry players in the country, said promoting predictability in regulations and ease of doing business are critical paths to succeed in accelerating the growth of the mining industry.
“We are directing the MGB (Mines and Geosciences Bureau) to concentrate efforts on mineral exploration in the coming year,” DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga said during the Nickel Initiative forum in Makati City.
PNIA said the one-stop shop should be similar to the Energy Virtual One-Stop Shop, a technology and operations management software platform for all government entities to promote a unified permitting system for energy related projects.
THE nickel industry in the country has remained compelling, driven by growing demand because of its wide range of applications toward smart cities and clean energy, the Philippine Nickel Industry Association (PNIA) said on Tuesday.
